I asked several of you to share your story a few weeks ago, and wow! We got some great ones! I met Marci recently on MomsLikeMe, and asked her if she’d be willing to share her story with you. She generously agreed, so today we’re featuring Marci! Way to Go, Marci!!!
I started taking couponing seriously this past June. I am a SAH first time Mom and was needing to save my family money. I am an avid garage saler and realized if I bought everything else at a good deal, there has to be a way with groceries, hygiene products and cleaning supplies. I like saving money so much, that we bought our home on a deal!
First and foremorst I have to thank my hopefully soon to be SIL, Dena, for introducing me to Hotcouponworld.com. At that moment when I arrived at HCW I heard angels singing, birds chirping, bells ringing….let’s just say I saw the light. I became addicted. For 3 days straight I did not sleep, I was overwhelmed with the amount of information. I started taking notes and then stumbled upon the CVS forums! Who knew you could get name brand products like shampoo, toothpaste, makeup and feminine products for FREE and also give you ECB for you to use on your next purchase!
When I first started on my coupon addiction, my friends and family thought I was nuts. They thought I was taking advantage of the system, people like me are just looking for free stuff and then re-sell it on ebay or at garage sales. Well, as some people do, I actually use the products! I would cook 2-3 meals a week before coupons and now I cook a meal typically every night. I don’t skimp on the amount or the ingredients. Plus, I have left overs that I can freeze for another meal! Everything I buy is typically less than $1, if not FREE and name brand. If I can do it, you can too!
Couponing has done so much more for me than saving money. It has always been in my nature to help others and to strive for that. For the first time, I was able to donate to the Free Store Food Bank a few weeks ago. Let me give you a little motivation, I spent $3.42 OOP for all of this:
It felt so good knowing families would benefit from my stockpile. I have also found my passion, cooking and baking. I also started a savings account for my daughter, 2 401k programs, and actually have money in our savings account. We no longer have to worry about what’s for dinner, if our daughter will have diapers and how we will pay this weeks bills.
I am now referred to as the coupon queen amongst my friends and family. My friends and family also benefit! I tend to send email after email of links to IP’s, freebies, sales, coupons to stores and FREE deals of the week! I also try to find items that everyone will use! Once they received FREE items in the mail, that’s all it took for a few of them. Going to the mailbox is like it’s my birthday everyday! I just never know what I am going to get. I have received FREE t-shirts, baseball caps, cereal, formula, tons of coupons, business cards and the list could go on! This Christmas our loved ones will be receiving freshly baked sweets that cost cents to make, along with the recipes! Who doesn’t love a sweet gift that comes from the heart?
Couponing also led me into taking online surveys. At first I thought it was a big scam. I didn’t like reading the emails, so I searched for other websites that reward you with points that you can redeem for merchandise and even 1 company that sends me checks. I started taking surveys in August and have already made $86, $10 McDonald’s gift card, $40 pre paid Visa gift card, free cleaning products, free diapers, free feminine products and much more. If you know me, you know that I like having my voice heard!
I hope this motivates you to start saving yourself money. If I can do it, anyone can! I would also like to thank Heather for her blog. Maybe one day I will attend your coupon class. I know several of my friends found it very informative!
From my family to yours, Happy Holidays and may the New Year save you money!
